Watch: Ms. Marvel Disney+ Trailer Reveals Surprising New MCU Superpowers
Ms. Marvel is one of the highly anticipated MCU projects on Disney+. The upcoming Marvel series will introduce a brand new hero into the mix in the form of Iman Vellani's Kamala Khan, a young hero who is a big fan of Carol Danvers' Captain Marvel. The exact plot details of Ms. Marvel are still being kept under wraps, but it has been confirmed to revolve around Kamala's origin story and her fascination with the Avengers.
Ms. Marvel had its fair share of delays due to the pandemic. The series was initially planned for release in 2021, but it was ultimately pushed back to 2022. It was previously reported that Ms. Marvel was set to premiere on Disney+ sometime in June 2022, but the exact date remained unconfirmed.
Now, in a surprise reveal, a brand new trailer alongside the confirmation of the Disney+ series' release date has been unveiled.
Iman Vellani Shines as Ms. Marvel
Disney+ officially revealed the first trailer for Ms. Marvel, showcasing an impressive look at Iman Vellani's Kamala Khan, a preview of her origin story, and her powers.
Alongside the trailer, a brand new poster for Ms. Marvel was also unveiled, while confirming its June 8 release date on Disney+:
As evidenced by her shirt, Kamala is a big fan of the Avengers:
Given that Kamala is a fan-fiction writer, it looks like there will be instances in the series where the young hero will daydream about being famous:
Among all the Avengers, Kamala's main idol is Brie Larson's Carol Danvers. It is unknown if the pair will meet in the series first before joining forces in The Marvels:
Unlike the comics where Kamala was revealed to be an Inhuman, it looks like the live-action version of the character will not be affiliated with the group as shown by this newfound bangle that gives her powers:
Kamala, wearing her makeshift Captain Marvel costume, is shocked by her new abilities:
Just like any first time hero, Kamala is able to find other uses for her powers that don't involve saving lives and fighting crime:
The trailer also confirmed that Matt Lintz's Bruno Carelli will find out Kamala's secret early on:
These mysterious figures could serve as the chief antagonists of the show, which is rumored to be ClanDestine, a family of super-beings that are decedents of Djinn, a race of powerful magicians from Marvel Comics:
Kamala's new 'Embiggen' powers are now confirmed to be different in the MCU, which is showcased as purple constructs rather than the usual stretching abilities from the comics:
Ms. Marvel is going all-out on being a hero in this official still, as she protects an unknown character:

Ms. Marvel's New Powers, Story & More
From the get-go, Ms. Marvel delivers a unique tone that stands out among the rest of the MCU projects, as evidenced by its high school setting and the text bubble elements that are featured. Given that the titular hero is a teenager, the show seems to be giving off a young adult novel vibe, but with superheroes in the mix.
Kamala's fascination with the Avengers appears to be at the forefront of telling the young hero's origin. It remains to be seen if actual members of Earth's Mightiest Heroes will show up in brief cameos to further strengthen the show's ties to the larger MCU.
Still, it's possible that Brie Larson's Captain Marvel or Teyonah Parris' Monica Rambeau would show up in either a post-credits scene or glorified cameos to directly connect to Kamala's appearance in The Marvels.
The fact that Ms. Marvel's stretching powers will not be featured in the show might fuel discussions online amongst diehard fans. However, it's safe to assume that there is a valid plot point that explains the major difference from the character's history, especially considering that this is not the first time that the MCU has retconned the comics.
Meanwhile, it is unknown if Ms. Marvel or Obi-Wan Kenobi would move to a different day after their premiere since both shows are set to be released on Wednesdays. Despite that, it's a win-win situation for fans either way, since a double dose of Marvel and Star Wars content will arrive soon.
Ms. Marvel is set to premiere on Disney+ on June 8, 2022.
