Tobey Maguire's Friendly Neighborhood variant from Spider-Man: No Way Home has just received a spectacular action figure.
Figsoku.net shared the first images of Bandai's S.H. Figuarts' new Spider-Man figure based on Tobey Maguire's character from Sam Raimi's Spider-Man Trilogy from the 2000s and in the Marvel Cinematic Universe megahit. The figure stands 6" tall with several points of articulation. Only two images were shared: One with Maguire's stunningly accurate head sculpt as Peter Parker holding Spidey's mask in hand. The other image shows the masked Spider-Man swinging into action with a translucent web shooter. No further information was supplied about a release date from Bandai.
This is not the first recent action figure -- outside the trilogy's original tie-in toys -- to be based on Maguire's multiverse variant of the Wall-Crawler. Hasbro recently previewed a Marvel Legends three-pack based on the epic Statue of Liberty climax from Spider-Man: No Way Home. That upcoming set of 6" scale figures will include Maguire's Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man along with Andrew Garfield's The Amazing Spider-Man and Tom Holland's MCU Spider-Man.
Maguire made his debut as Peter Parker/Spider-Man in 2002's Spider-Man, in which he gained his powers from a radioactive spider and faces off against Norman Osborne/Green Goblin (Willem Dafoe). The film solidified Marvel as a cinematic force, grossing $825 million worldwide and receiving universal acclaim. The sequel, 2004's Spider-Man 2, saw the Wall-Crawler face Dr. Octopus (Alfred Molina) while coming to grips with his dual identity. The reviews were more glowing than the original and some fans consider it to be the best Spider-Man movie on film. But 2007's Spider-Man 3 polarized critics and audiences for it being overstuffed with villains and subplots.
A fourth Spider-Man film in the Raimi series was planned for production in 2011 with Maguire back in the role. But script issues and creative differences with Sony led to the project's cancellation as well as the launch of the 2012 reboot, The Amazing Spider-Man. Maguire would reprise Peter Parker in No Way Home's third act, entering the MCU after Holland's Spider-Man accidentally opens up the multiverse through Dr. Strange's memory-wiping spell. The two Spider-Men, alongside Garfield's variant, team up to stop their respective villains from doing more damage to the multiverse.
Since No Way Home's release, fans have pushed for Maguire to continue in the role for Raimi's fourth Spider-Man film. The actor has stopped short of saying his time as Spider-Man is over. "It was really about getting together with these people and revisiting what was part of my history," Maguire said. "There are personal things, too, which are kinda resolutions or a way to revisit and to get back into that and, I don't wanna say, like, 'close the chapter,' but 'revisit' and have certain resolutions and just join in this loving creative spirit."
Bandai S.H. Figuarts six-inch Tobey Magure Spider-Man action figure does not have a release date.
