Across the Spider-Verse Promo Teases Gwen and Miles' Lethal Romance

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse's latest trailer teases a dark end for the film's budding super-powered romance.

The trailer, posted to Twitter on May 19, sees Miles Morales and Gwen Stacy sharing a heartfelt moment as they look out over the New York City skyline together. While Gwen laments the fact that the romance between Spider-Man and various versions of herself across the Multiverse always ends in tragedy, Miles offers some sense of hope by noting, "There's a first time for everything."

Across the Spider-Verse Goes All in With Spider-People

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is set to mark the return of Shameik Moore and Hailee Steinfeld as the voices of Miles and Gwen for another animated epic that will also see Jake Johnson reprise his Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse role of Peter B. Parker. A sequel to 2018's Into the Spider-Verse, Across the Spider-Verse will expand the previous cast of interdimensional Wall-Crawlers with the addition of Issa Rae as Jessica Drew, aka Spider-Woman, Karan Soni as Pavitr Prabhakar, Spider-Man India, and Oscar Isaac as Miguel O'Hara, better known as the Spider-Man of 2099.

Isaac, who also portrays the titular antihero of Marvel Studios' Moon Knight, previously opened up about which of his Marvel characters would emerge victorious if the two were to ever go head-to-head. "It's interesting -- they have some similarities, actually," Isaac explained, "But the unpredictability of Moon Knight, the fact that he’s the man of a million faces... Yeah, I've got to go with Moon Knight on this one."

Along with Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse's exceptionally long voice cast list, the film is poised to make a place on the list of longest Western animated features of all time, with its 140-minute runtime placing it ahead of 1978's The Lord of the Rings and only behind Marcell Jankovics' 2011 Hungarian animated drama The Tragedy of Man, which runs an astounding 160 minutes. Across the Spider-Verse is expected to make big waves at the box office in spite of its long runtime, with projections pointing toward the film surpassing $85 million domestic on its opening weekend, more than double Into the Spider-Verse's opening weekend return of $35.4 across North America.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse swings into theaters on June 2.
