The latest trailer for Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part I shows off plenty of Tom Cruise's most death-defying stunts yet.
The footage builds on the snippets previously released to market the film, revealing more insight into the story as Ethan Hunt (Cruise) is backed into a corner and faced with his most challenging job yet. While the premise of the narrative is still largely obscured, the new trailer does provide some intense new action sequences, spotlighting Pom Klementieff's using a saber to brawl with Ethan Hunt. Various scenes in a desert and a closer look at Esai Morales' as-yet-unnamed villain.
Beyond the most recent trailer, Paramount has kept details on the seventh Mission: Impossible's story quiet. Many fans believe the reason behind the secrecy is that Dead Reckoning Part I will serve as the setup for the final movie in the franchise. While several reports have speculated Cruise's iconic movie series will conclude with Dead Reckoning Part II, neither the star nor the creative team have said as much, suggesting all rumors should be taken with a hefty grain of salt.
Dead Reckoning's Massive Scope
While many Mission: Impossible fans are avidly looking forward to Dead Reckoning Part I, Cruise and director Christopher McQuarrie didn't hesitate when it came to filming Part II. The filmmaker explained the idea behind splitting the seventh blockbuster in half, noting that it was the best possible decision when it came to telling the character's stories. "Going into this, I said, 'I want to take what we learned from Fallout and apply it to every character in the movie. I want everyone to have an emotional arc. ... I just want the movie to have more feeling across the board."
Fans of the franchise have come to expect a certain level of high-octane action when it comes to Mission: Impossible and Dead Reckoning Part I is seemingly trying to raise the bar higher than ever. Cruise has previously explained how he performed what he believes to be his most dangerous stunt yet, one that involved driving a motorcycle off a cliff, releasing it in mid-air and then pulling the cord for his chute. To prepare for the moment, Cruise trained for a year and performer over 500 skydives and 1,300 motorcycle jumps. "“I had to get so good at this so there’s no way I miss my mark," Cruise explained when asked why the extensive training was a necessity.
Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part I blasts into theaters on July 14.
